The Korean Conflict: America’s Forgotten War

Join presenter Paul Zigo to learn about the Korean War: America’s ‘Forgotten War’. Learn about its profound impact on East-West relations during the Cold War, the aspects of the war, and the armistice that brought it to a halt. Registration is required. This presentation will be hosted at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.  Paul E. Zigo, a history professor, author and military historian is the founder and director, of the World War II Era Studies Institute. The institute is dedicated to furthering one’s knowledge and understanding of the WW II era and its impact on history. He is a graduate of Temple University and the United States Army War College. Mr. Paul E. Zigo is a 30 year veteran of the United States Army retiring as a Colonel and is a founding sponsor of the National Museum of the US Army.

In her newest program Mothers of Invention, Carol Simon Levin, from Telling Her Stories, portrays Lillian Moller Gilbreth, motion study pioneer and “Cheaper by the Dozen” mother of 12 — then shares the stories of other overlooked women innovators, including many women of color. From Margaret Knight (the 19th century “Female Edison”) to Hollywood superstar Hedy Lamarr, these “Mothers of Invention” changed our lives, yet their accomplishments were all too often ignored, discounted or credited to others. Authors Sabeeha Rehman and Walter Ruby will highlight the message of their book We Refuse to Be Enemies, a manifesto by two American citizens, a Muslim woman and Jewish man, concerned with the rise of intolerance and bigotry in our country. Subtitled How Muslims and Jews Can Make Peace, One Friendship at a Time, the book is a manifesto that two Americans, a Muslim woman and a Jewish man, created in response to the perceived rise of bias and bigotry in the US. Rehman and Ruby have spent decades in interfaith collaborations, nurturing cooperation among communities.
