Ocean County Historical Society 26 Hadley Ave, Toms River, NJ, United States“A Titanic Loss for New Jersey” by Robert DeSando Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM Meet Robert DeSando as he discusses his newest book " A Titanic Loss for New Jersey" on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Learn about how the sinking of the Titanic impacted New Jersey from both a personal and economic perspective. The program will be followed with a book signing by Robert. His book will be available for purchase that day. Robert is a former journalist, lobbyist, and public servant. For more than 16 years, he held a variety of positions with the Asbury Park Press from reporter to bureau chief. He served as communications director and deputy executive director for the New Jersey State General Assembly. Also, he was a special assistant to the state education commissioner and assistant commissioner for the Department of Transportation. This event takes place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Dave Revels is a veteran singer, producer, and songwriter known for his work with legendary groups like The Drifters and as lead singer/producer for the acclaimed a cappella group The Persuasions. He has also created the popular Motown tribute show Shadows of the 60s, blending decades of soul, R&B, and classic hits with his own compositions. Ocean County Historical Society 26 Hadley Ave, Toms River, NJ, United States“Gravesites of the Signers of the Declaration of Independence” presented by TJ Fallon Sunday, March 15, 2026 – 2:00 PM TJ Fallon returns to the Ocean County Historical Society on Sunday, March 15, 2026, with a PowerPoint presentation on the gravesites of the fifty-six signers of the Declaration of Independence. Back in 2020, TJ was furloughed from work at the start of the coronavirus pandemic. He decided to spend that time traveling the nation, visiting the gravesites of former presidents, vice presidents, signers of the Declaration of Independence and baseball Hall of Famers. To accomplish this feat, he traveled more than 20,000 miles through thirty-three states. His adventures are extremely entertaining and informative. This event takes place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. There is no charge, but donations are appreciated. Next, starting at 2:00 pm we will have renowned musicians, Anne and Ridley Enslow, performing a concert of Revolutionary War music. Waves of Hope: The Inspirational Story of Agnes Negra
The Ocean County Library 101 Washington St, Toms River, NJ, United StatesMeet the Author of an Inspiring WWII Tale at Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library During World War II, a tech-savvy New Jersey woman took it upon herself to be a priceless information provider for families of captured U.S. service members. Agnes Joan Negra’s exploits are chronicled in the book Waves of Hope. Meet her son Ronald Edward Negra, the author, at several branches of the Ocean County Library this April. Ronald and his wife Valerie will discuss his mother’s inspirational tale, lovingly written from her own vivid recollections in Waves of Hope, available at the Ocean County Library. Then as now, parents, spouses, children, and relatives sought any information they could find about their men and women in uniform – whether they were safe, or even alive. This newly married wife and mother was no different. Her husband August suffered wounds in the Battle of the Bulge and was Missing in Action. Sitting by her shortwave radio in her Nutley home, Agnes monitored Radio Berlin’s nightly recitation of captured US military members. She sought news of her husband – but listened for more than that. Sunday, April 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM The title of Robert Cobb’s presentation will be Who Were New Jersey’s Pine-Robbers? The notorious Pine-Robbers were a legendary fixture of New Jersey history during the American Revolution. However, how accurate have they been portrayed? While addressing this question, the talk will provide a brief introduction to the overall subject. Robert Cobb recently published a book entitled Privateers and Pine-Robbers – Coastal New Jersey During the American Revolution. The purpose of the book is to take stories rooted in New Jersey’s folklore and place them within a historical narrative based on facts. Following the event, Robert will be available for a book signing. A retired college administrator, he now lives in Barnegat. This event takes place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. General John Lacey and the Battle of the Crooked Billet
Ocean County Historical Society 26 Hadley Ave, Toms River, NJ, United StatesSunday, May 10, 2026, at 2:00 PM – General John Lacey and the Battle of the Crooked Billet, presented by Scott Randolph Renowned historian Scott Randolph will tell us how General John Lacey became a hero during the Battle of the Crooked Billet. Randolph will discuss the General’s ties to Lacey Township, named after him. He will also discuss the brutal atrocities committed under British Major John Graves Simcoe. (Simcoe is featured in the TV mini-series, “Turn.”) Scott has worked in radio, film, and television for over 30 years. He was an on-air talent for WJJZ Philadelphia, 92 5XTU Philadelphia Atlantic City, and WHWH Princeton. In his TV career he directed “Christina Cook” on PBS for over 10 years and was the director of “Comcast Newsmakers” for 15 years. He produced and directed the award-winning documentary, “The Battle of the Crooked Billet,” which premiered at Valley Forge National Park.
