History Professor and lifelong Mets fan Rick Feingold will recount tales of the 1960s Mets from their humble beginnings in '62 as the "worst team in baseball" to their triumphant 1969 season as World Champions. Featured from this era are: Managers Casey Stengel and Gil Hodges, 1969 rivals Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Braves, and Baltimore Orioles, Mets sign-man Karl Ehrhardt, and more.

The Downtown Toms River Scarecrow Walk The Scarecrow Walk is once again returning to Downtown Toms River. The streets in downtown are lined with scarecrows for this annual event. For two weeks the public is invited to visit and vote on their favorite. Participating businesses will have ballots for voting. Just look for the Scarecrow Walk poster in their window! Oct. 11th – 31st Location Washington & Main Street When October 11th to October 31st The Scarecrow Walk is once again returning to Downtown Toms River. The community is invited to come downtown and vote for their favorite scarecrow. Scarecrows are on display from October 11th to October 31st . Participating businesses will have ballots for voting. The Toms River Elks Special Children’s Committee (SCC) is hosting this year’s Trunk or Treat. The SCC works with compassion and dedication to provide programs and events for children and adults with special needs. Our programs allow for special children of all ages to interact socially, and encourages them to attain their full potential. Participants in SCC programs have the opportunity to partake in many lodge events and programs such as dances, cooking classes and buddy bocce at no cost. This event is open to the public and free to attend. We are inviting nonprofit organizations, businesses and members of the community to participate by decorating their vehicle and passing out candy or child appropriate sensory toys to all the trick or treaters as they walk around to each vehicle. Awards will be handed out for the best-decorated vehicles and children in costume. The rain date for the event is Saturday, October 19, 2024. The parade will begin at 2:30 PM. A week at Elks Camp Moore is a remarkable experience not soon to be forgotten. The primary goal of the camp is to further develop the recreational and social skills of each child. In a relaxed and accepting atmosphere , each camper experiences new adventures, lasting friendships, and opportunities that promote independence and greater self-confidence. Eleanor Roosevelt: The First Lady of Today’s First Ladies with Mark Mutter, Toms River Historian Learn about the remarkable life of Eleanor Roosevelt, who served as the “eyes and ears” for President Roosevelt. Eleanor was the first lady from 1933 until 1945. Through her travels throughout the country, as an early advocate for human rights, and her public engagement, she redefined the role of First Lady. This remarkable person even served as the United States Delegate to the United Nations. Presented by Mark Mutter, who spent summer months working as a docent at Campobello Island, where the Roosevelts had their summer cottage. During his time there Mark did extensive research on Eleanor Roosevelt. Mark has been historian and business administrator for Toms River Township, serves as the official Toms River historian, and is currently adjunct professor of law at Ocean County College. These events take place at our museum at 26 Hadley Avenue in Toms River. Our speaker series is always free; but donations are appreciated. 36th Annual Holiday Gifts, Crafts & Collectibles Fair
The Ocean County Historical Society will be hosting their 36th Annual Holiday Gifts, Crafts and Collectibles Faire on Sunday, November 3rd, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. It will again be in the Toms River South High School Cafetorium located off Hooper Avenue in Toms River. Admission is free! There will be over eighty vendors, and an Ocean County History and Cultural Pavilion sponsored by Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission. In addition, there will be delicious baked goods for sale, our popular 50-50, Boy Scout Troop 20 snack stand, and much more. Vendor tables are available, 1 8 ft. table for $50, 2 tables for $95.
