The Mathis House at 600 Main 600 Main St., Toms RiverCelebrate the Holidays with our Holiday Tea at the Mathis House! Back by popular demand, our Holiday Tea will be offered to those wishing to visit the beautifully decorated Mathis House Tearoom at 600 Main Street in Toms River on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Guests may look forward to the ever-delicious scones, yummy tea sandwiches, and scrumptious mini-desserts that accompany generous pots of fine tea as they chat with friends in the historical elegance of this stately home. As usual, a few lucky guests will win door prizes. The seating is at 11:00 AM. Cost: $40 members; $45 non-members. Be sure to make your reservation starting 10:00 am on October 9th by calling Pat at 732-814-2979. Checks should be made out and mailed to Ocean County Historical Society, 26 Hadley Avenue, Toms River, NJ 08753 within one week of phone reservation, with Attention: Pat in the bottom left-hand corner of the envelope.
20th Annual Residential Holiday Decorating Contest
District residents are invited to decorate the exterior of their homes with lights, wreaths, scenery and other decorative ornaments. Who is Eligible? Home must be located within the boundaries of the Downtown Toms River Business Improvement District (The southside of Rt. 37, from the Toms River Shopping Center to Hooper/Hadley Avenue, down along the river to the Garden State Parkway). How to Enter: There is no entry fee. NO PRE- REGISTRATION!!! Judging: Judging begins at 5pm, Thursday, December 7th. Criteria used by judges are as follows: Originality: Unique design and creative use of lights and decorations Arrangement: Display and placement of decorations Theme: Story line or scene Overall: Overall presentation Prizes: 1st Place = $200 and a yard sign designating your home as the winner of the 2023 “Deck the Homes” Holiday Decorating contest. 2nd Place = $100 and certificate 3rd Place = $50 and certificate Winners will receive a letter in their mailbox on Friday 12/8 stating that they won and how to receive their prize. 20th Annual “Be-Deck Your Business” Contest Criteria & Details Brighten the streets of our central business district! Downtown businesses are encouraged to decorate the exterior and/or windows of their businesses. Businesses may be decorated anytime, but must be ready for judging on Thursday, December 7th 2023. Prizes: Winner of each category receives: Business name and photo on our website. $100 Prize A plaque for your business Categories: Best Window Display Best Downtown Business (Center) Best District Business Judging: Judges are from 100.1 WJRZ. Judging will commence on Thursday, Dec 7, at 5pm.
