Leonard “Bud” Lomell:

Leonard Lomell was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Point Pleasant, New Jersey as a toddler. He was an Army Ranger best known for his heroic actions in the early hours of the D-Day Invasion.

Historian and author Stephen Ambrose stated that next to General Eisenhower, Lomell was most responsible for the success of the D-Day Invasion. After the allied victory at Normandy, Lomell saw heavy combat in the Battle of Hurtgen Forrest. He sustained wounds on three separate occasions. For his heroic actions in the Hurtgen Forrest, Lomell was awarded with a Silver Star, the U.S. Distinguished Service Cross, a Bronze Star, the British Military Medal, and the French Legion D’honneur. A street in his name is in Toms River.

After his military service Bud Lomell and his wife Charlotte resided in Point Pleasant. They then moved to Toms River, where they raised three daughters. Lomell established a successful law firm and served as a pillar of the community.
