Learn how easy it is to turn “waste” into a free-soil amendment for your garden! \nJoin Sandra Blain-Snow and Tanara Hall from Ocean County Solid Waste Management and Master Composters to learn about composting and gardening in Ocean County. As advocates for the environment\, they oversee the County’s public outreach and education on all aspects of recycling\, composting\, gardening\, and sustainability issues. Negra as he captures the upheaval and anxiety of families affected by World War II: debate over volunteering to serve\, familial ties being temporarily severed as enlistees leave for foreign shores\, and the interminable agony of awaiting word about loved ones who have been captured or presumed lost. Join Ocean County Historical Society in its hybrid (in person and Zoom) presentation on Sunday\, April 24\, 2022\, at 2:00 P.M. \nSharing the presentation with Ron are his mother\, Agnes Joan Negra\, now 102 and a 46 year-long resident of Forked River\, who devised a way to help the POW families with her own patriotic endeavor. Learn about Agnes’ dedicated service in Ron’s book\, Waves of Hope\, which Ron and his wife\, Valerie\, will have available for purchase. DESCRIPTION:In her newest program Mothers of Invention\, Carol Simon Levin\, from Telling Her Stories\, portrays Lillian Moller Gilbreth\, motion study pioneer and “Cheaper by the Dozen” mother of 12 — then shares the stories of other overlooked women innovators\, including many women of color.\nFrom Margaret Knight (the 19th century “Female Edison”) to Hollywood superstar Hedy Lamarr\, these “Mothers of Invention” changed our lives\, yet their accomplishments were all too often ignored\, discounted or credited to others. This program is being held at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.\nRegistration is required. SUMMARY:OCHS’s Zoom Presentation of Tracing Cranberry Inlet History
DESCRIPTION:Tracing Cranberry Inlet History \nJoin Ocean County Historical Society’s Zoom presentation at 2:00 PM on March 20th. Enthusiastic storyteller\, Ron Post\, a surveyor\, sailor\, racer of catamarans\, car collector and 1970 graduate of the University of Walt Disney World\, will present his research on the history of the Cranberry Inlet that once connected Barnegat Bay with the Atlantic Ocean. \nRon grew up in Morris County\, collaborated with a surveyor after high school graduation\, was drafted into the Army\, returned to Morris County to collaborate again with a surveyor\, and at age 29\, moved with his sailboat to Orlando\, FL. He became a marina supervisor at the Contemporary Hotel in Disney World\, married his wife Karen in 1980\, and then returned to the Jersey Shore. \nEarning his surveyor’s license in 1983\, Ron started his own surveying business in Toms River. With Karen’s help\, their “mom and pop” business working out of the basement has morphed into the present Ronald W. Post Surveying Inc. offering property\, utility\, and aerial surveying to the public. \nBringing his love of surveying and maps to his presentation\, Ron will explain how Mother Nature created\, then destroyed the Cranberry inlet\, until enterprising developers and builders finally tamed it. \nTo register for Ron’s program\, email us at oceancountyhistory.zoom@gmail.com stating: 1) your name and March 20; 2) your zip code; 3) the email address we should use to send you instructions for accessing the Zoom program.
