DESCRIPTION:“Leonard Lomell – Hero of D-Day” \nwith \nTR Historian Mark Mutter and Author Steven Gillon \nSaturday\, June 1\, 2024\, 11:30 AM \nThe Ocean County Historical Society and Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission are sponsoring a talk and book signing with New York Times Best Selling Author Steven Gillon relating to his book\, “Len Lomell D-Day Hero.” This event will be held on Saturday\, June 1\, 2024\, at the George P. Vanderveer American Legion Post 129\, at 2025 Church Road\, Toms River. The program\, moderated by Toms River Historian\, Mark Mutter\, will begin at 11:30 AM and be followed by a book signing. Please let us know if you plan to attend this event by emailing: oceancountyhistory.programs@gmail.com.  Please include your email address\, phone number\, zip code\, and the name and date of the event. \nLeonard “Bud” Lomell: \nLeonard Lomell was born in Brooklyn\, New York and moved to Point Pleasant\, New Jersey as a toddler. He was an Army Ranger best known for his heroic actions in the early hours of the D-Day Invasion. \nHistorian and author Stephen Ambrose stated that next to General Eisenhower\, Lomell was most responsible for the success of the D-Day Invasion. After the allied victory at Normandy\, Lomell saw heavy combat in the Battle of Hurtgen Forrest. He sustained wounds on three separate occasions. For his heroic actions in the Hurtgen Forrest\, Lomell was awarded with a Silver Star\, the U.S. Distinguished Service Cross\, a Bronze Star\, the British Military Medal\, and the French Legion D’honneur. A street in his name is in Toms River. \nAfter his military service Bud Lomell and his wife Charlotte resided in Point Pleasant. They then moved to Toms River\, where they raised three daughters. Lomell established a successful law firm and served as a pillar of the community.

DESCRIPTION:June 12th\, July 10th\, August 14th \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the Downtown Toms River Business Improvement District along with the Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County for a classic car show along Washington St.  DJ will entertain the crowd.  Downtown businesses and restaurants will be open for dinner\, drinks and shopping. \nCars that would like to participate need to line up on Hadley Ave. facing south towards Washington St. no earlier than 4:30pm.  Volunteers will be there to let you know when you can begin to pull your cars into the designated area.  No cars should be pulling directly onto Washington Street.  All cars must line up in the staging area on Hadley Avenue.  All cars manufactured prior to 1997 are welcome.
