Toms River, NJ ... The Cruisin' Downtown season continues on Wednesday,
June11 with featured band RB Express. The monthly display of vintage cars,
including 20th century classics, customized hot rods, collector's edition
vehicles, and motorcycles is presented by Downtown Toms River and the
Vintage Auto Club of Ocean County and takes place on Washington Street. One
of the few vintage auto shows that offers live musical entertainment, the
ever-popular "Cruisin' Downtown" takes place the second Wednesday of each
month through September, from 6 to 9 pm. The events are free and open to
public.
Owners with vintage automobile models dating prior to 1982 are eligible to
participate and must register at the Downtown Toms River event booth on the
corner of Washington Street and Court House Lane to obtain a dash plaque.
Registration is free. Best of Show trophies are presented by the Vintage
Auto Club to the top three automobiles at each "Cruisin' Downtown" event.
Owners displaying cars should report to Hadley Avenue, off Hooper Avenue,
between 4 and 5 p.m., facing south to Washington Street. Representatives
from the Vintage Auto Club will be on hand to direct participants.
For motorcycle enthusiasts and proud owners, members of the Trinity
Motorcycle Ministry will be available at the motorcycle registration table
on the corner of Main and Washington Streets to direct motorcycle parking on
those streets and along Hyers Street.
Restaurants and shops will be open and live entertainment will
be featured on Washington Street. New Jersey's own RB Express
(www.rbexpressdoowop.com http://www.rbexpressdoowop.com), a group that
exemplifies the tight harmonies and rhythms of early street corner doo-wop,
will be performing the great songs from the '40's through '70's and will
have you singing along to old favorites.
DJ Dave will be on hand to keep the tunes rolling. New to Cruisin' are the
Oceanaires of Toms River, the Ocean County chapter of the Barbershop Harmony
Society. The Oceanaires have been performing for over 50 years, singing old
favorites and show tunes in four part, a cappella harmony. Street vendors,
contests, prizes and giveaways round out the event and offer something for
everyone.
"Cruisin Downtown" is sponsored by Capone's Gourmet Pizza & Restaurant,
FirstEnergy Foundation, JCP&L, United Water Toms River, Mr. Alan's Florist,
Comcast, New Jersey Natural Gas, Tracy Harman Photography, and radio
stations WJRZ and the WRAT.
