Toms River, NJ ... The FirstEnergy Foundation, which is solely funded by FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE: FE), the parent company of Jersey Central Power and Light (JCP&L), has generously given Downtown Toms River (the Toms River Business Improvement District) a grant for $7,500. The grant money will be used to fund special events in Downtown Toms River throughout the year.

While Mayor Thomas Kelaher and Downtown Toms River Executive Director Michael Redpath looked on, Maria Sessa, Area Manager for JCP&L, presented the check for $7,500 to JoAnn Juralewicz, owner of Simply Skin and Vice-chair of the Toms River Business Development Corporation (dba Downtown Toms River) Board of Directors,
Downtown Toms River, a not-for-profit corporation, is designated by municipal ordinance to promote and implement the economic revitalization of Downtown Toms River. Its goals include preserving the business district’s cultural, historic and civic interests and support employee involvement and investment through the numerous special events that are held throughout the year. Commercial property owners and registered business owners of the district elect the 19 members of the Downtown Toms River board. Vice-Chair JoAnn Juralewicz, expressed thanks for The FirstEnergy Foundation’s grant by saying, “there is a group of business owners who are really working diligently to make a difference in Downtown Toms River and FirstEnergy has been a great partner in rebuilding the community.”
As a Downtown Toms River sponsor, some of the events that FirstEnergy’s funds will support are: the 6th Annual NJ State Ice Cream Festival on July 19; Cruisin’ Dowtown, held once a month from May through September, and Pizza, Pasta, Pastry on September 27. Commenting on these events, Downtown Toms River’s Executive Director Redpath said, “Downtown revitalization is greatly based on creative partnering. Having First Energy involved with our great events is a very valuable partnership.”
